We had the opportunity to interview Nadia Horn, owner of The Hair Scene and a professional stylist for 14 years, to discuss her experience with hair straightening treatments and why she recommends the Quick Grow Smoothing Treatment to all her customers.
Q: Can you tell us about your background as a stylist and your experience in the industry?
I started my career in hair and makeup 14 years ago, after graduating from the Porchefstroom Academy. I am extremely passionate about hair color and styling, and after 2 years in the trade, my sister and I started our own salon; The Hair Scene. We have dedicated our careers to constantly learning the latest trends, technologies and techniques so that we can give our customers the very best in hair colour, treatments and home-care products.
Q: How did you first hear about Quick Grow's smoothing treatment, and what made you decide to try it?
Last year, a colleague in the industry recommended the Quick Grow smoothing treatment to me. Motivated by recent global events, including the challenges posed by Covid-19, I made a conscious decision to prioritise both my personal health and the well-being of my clients and fellow colleagues. As part of this commitment, I chose to explore and invest in safer, healthier alternatives specifically; in a straightening treatment that is formaldehyde free, which is when I decided to give the Quick Grow Smoothing Treatment a try.
"My clients feedback was so positive after receiving this treatment, especially those that want to grow their hair."
Q: What immediate differences did you notice when using our smoothing treatment compared to other products you've used in the past?
The first difference I noticed was that I didnβt experience any eye irritation or burning sensations in my nose during the treatment application. Another difference I noticed was that the fragrance left in the hair after the treatment was a pleasant, sweet smell instead of the usual strong unpleasant odour us stylists associate with these kinds of treatments. The shine and condition of the hair was definitely something that stood out for me, and my clients feedback was so positive after receiving this treatment, especially those that want to grow their hair.
Q: Can you share your experience with using formaldehyde-containing straightening treatments and how Quick Grow's smoothing treatment compares?
We found that formaldehyde-containing treatments are quite uncomfortable to offer in a salon, especially because of the unpleasant smells, and the irritation caused to the eyes and nose.
The Quick Grow smoothing treatment doesnβt release any harsh fumes or formaldehyde which is one of the main reasons we decided to give this treatment a try in the first place. It has a pleasant smell, is easy to apply and is safe to be used on expecting and breastfeeding mothers, and children too. This creates more lucrative areas for us to offer services and specialise in too.
Q: How does Quick Grow's smoothing treatment compare in terms of results and overall hair health?
The main difference between Quick Growβs smoothing treatment and some of the more popular professional hair straightening treatments out there; is that it doesnβt remove the curl - only the frizz and damage. The hair retains its structure and volume, with a softer, silkier finish that is further enhanced when blow-dried. The hair doesnβt become dead straight after this treatment, which is something our clients actually prefer. We think of it as the perfect blow-dry companion for our clients. It helps them achieve glossy, shiny hair after each blow-dry, halving the drying time and protecting the hair between salon visits.
Q: How does the Quick Grow smoothing treatment compare cost-wise?
One of the main concerns most salon owners have is product wastage. Most straightening treatments come in 1l bottles, making it tough to measure out the right amount for each client, leading to a lot of waste. The Quick Grow smoothing treatment has a Clarifying Shampoo that comes in a 1L bottle for the basin, and then individual 100ml treatment bottles that are calculated based on your clients hair length. This way, we can easily calculate the cost per application and charge our clients accurately.
Q: In your professional opinion, how important is it for consumers to choose hair treatments that prioritise hair health and safety?
As a professional hair stylist, I consider it essential to educate and inform my clients about their hair health and overall well-being. It is my responsibility to guide them in making informed choices to avoid harmful products, whether used at home or in a professional salon environment. Clear and accurate communication ensures our clients understand the importance of using products that prioritise their health and the integrity of their hair.
A Healthier Alternative
Many hair straightening treatments release formaldehyde when heat is applied. This can cause serious problems for both stylists and clients, like respiratory issues, skin and eye irritation, and most notably; an increased cancer risk. Formaldehyde also keeps releasing over time, especially when your clients use hot tools like flat irons or blow dryers. This means clients are exposed to these harmful fumes long after the treatment is applied.
The Quick Grow Smoothing Treatment is a formaldehyde free keratin treatment, enriched with replenishing keratin offering a gentler, safer approach to smooth, shiny hair. It creates a protective keratin mesh surrounding each strand, shielding your clients hair from moisture loss, environmental damage, and split ends between salon visits. Your clients can enjoy silky, beautiful hair without compromising their health. No wonder this treatment is increasingly preferred in salons who are dedicated to offering safe and effective treatments that donβt pose any health risks to their clients.
